Workers will begin installing two openings in the median along North Lake Shore Drive. Movable concrete barriers will be placed there and would only be moved out of the way in emergencies to allow vehicles to pass through.
During construction, the inside lanes between Armitage Avenue and Goethe Street will be closed in both directions.
Construction is expected to last through late November.
