Students at Rolling Meadows High School returned to class after winter break and paused to remember a classmate killed in Mexico.

The body of 18-year-old Alexis Marron was found along with the charred remains of two other men in the trunk of a burned-out car in a small central Mexican town.

Mexican authorities say Marron may have been caught in the middle of the escalating battle between organized crime groups fighting over drug territory.

On Tuesday, his classmates set up a memorial at his locker and wearing red in his honor.
