In 2008, Cole Hall on the campus of Northern Illinois University was the scene of a tragedy. The building has been transformed into a state-of-the-art lecture hall and will reopen for classes on Tuesday.

It now includes a new home for the NIU anthropology museum and a computer lab, as well as a new large 350-seat lecture hall.

The building, which was the largest lecture facility on campus, has been closed since February 2008, when a gunman killed five students and wounded 19 others.

Renovations began in 2010.
