Possible life-saving test for lung cancer

A genetic test can predict which early-stage lung cancers will return after surgery.

The study in the journal Lancet looked at the two largest clinical studies ever done on the molecular genetics of lung cancer.

The hope is that this will help doctors decide which patients with early lung cancer need chemotherapy after surgery and which will do well with surgery alone.

Both studies found the test could accurately predict if the likelihood of death from early stage lung cancer was low or high.

One of the authors calls this really encouraging for lung cancer patients.
