A retired Chicago police officer and four others were convicted Tuesday on charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

Glenn Lewellen, 55, served on the police department from 1986 to 2002.

The jury did not reach a verdict on whether Lewellen took part in a racketeering conspiracy that included kidnappings, robberies and drug trafficking.

The charges against Lewellen carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.
