What's safer, home or hospital birth?

A new study finds babies whose mothers choose to deliver at home are at higher risk of complications after birth. That includes low APGAR scores and seizure.

However, the study also found if the births are attended by a certified nurse midwife some of the added risk disappeared.

Scientists say only about 26 percent of home births were attended by a certified nurse midwife.

Authors of the study to be presented at the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Society meeting say the location of birth is important, but who is present at the delivery is more important.
