Ice bath could ease muscle soreness by 20 percent

Many elite athletes swear by ice baths as a good way to ward off muscle soreness after a tough workout.

A new review finds a cold soak can work, but just how effective it is depends on what you compare it to.

The study from The Cochran Library says it is better than doing nothing but equal to other remedies such as compression stockings or stretching.

The ice bath reduced muscle soreness by about 20 percent.

And, if you shudder at the thought of immersing your body in a tub of ice cubes, here is something to consider: One expert says, stay warm and pop a couple ibuprofen, you'll get about the same effect.
