Some retailers pushing against online lottery sales

Some Chicago-area convenience and retail store owners are asking Illinois Lottery officials to slow down their push for online sales.

The group says online lottery ticket sales will bite into their sales and cut down on "impulse buys" because fewer customers will be reaching for that last-minute candy bar or bottle of water.

Store owners say the online program does not protect consumers and could put some convenience stores out of business.

Illinois Lottery tickets are currently only allowed to be bought with cash, in person, at retailers across the state.

Online lottery sales are set to begin March 25.
