Wow your guests with movie-inspired food at your 2012 Oscar party.

Ray Samlow is the owner of MJ Catering & Events, the official catering sponsor for this year's Oscar Night America event hosted at the Gene Siskel Film Center. He shares movie-inspired food, cocktail and decor ideas.

  • The Artist
    Artist Cookie - Black & white chocolate dipped shortbread Cookies
  • Midnight in Paris
    Midnight in Paris Canape - toasted brioche topped with black olive tapenade
  • Hugo
    "Hugo Parfait" (French Silk parfait)
  • Moneyball
    Moneyball (High Ball) Stoli vodka, Green River Soda and a money twist garnish
  • The Tree of Life
    "The Tea of Life" - Hendrick's gin, honey, black tea, and apple cider vinegar
  • Red Carpet - either on the floor as guests enter or use a red runner on the buffet
  • Linen -colors: gold, silver, black and red
    Silver and black with silver screen images
    Red and black for carpet and film
    Gold and black for Oscar and film
  • Buffet -
    Use black ribbon to simulate film strip or buy film strips as décor on your buffet
    Create movie marker out of chalk board for buffet menu
  • Guest Tables -
    Buy tiles and paint on a star with guests' names in gold for place setting or coasters (like Hollywood Walk of Fame)
    Have directors chairs with guests names
  • Have guests dress up as a favorite character from this year's movies
  • Create a step & repeat have guests pose in front for a photograph as they arrive
  • Create or purchase life size poster of actor and have guests take photos with board
