Chicago police officers are getting more protection for the NATO summit in May.

The Chicago Tribune reports the city has ordered 8,500 new face shields.

This follows an earlier order of just over 3,000.

A Chicago police spokesperson says the city used a federal Homeland Security grant to cover the cost of more than $750,000.

The shields fit over police helmets and protect against rocks and fluids.
