Wauconda police dog nominated for 2012 Hero Dog Awards

June 18, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Maxx and his crime-fighting partner/trainer Sgt. John Combs often help out nearby law enforcement agencies when they need canine assistance, such as Lake County or Mundelein.

"He's an excellent dog," Wauconda Deputy Chief Ted Hennessy said of Maxx. "A lot of that is testament to his sergeant, how John trains him."

Not only are Maxx and Sgt. Combs out on everyday police business, they're also repeat winners of the Regional K-9 Associations' Canine Olympics, a two-day competition involving an obstacle course and other commands.

Now Maxx is in the running for the 2012 American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards. He's made the final 16. As of noon on June 18, Maxx was number 7. To vote for him, and check out the canine competition, visit herodogawards.org.

The Hero Dog Awards raises money for the Humane Association and its charity partners.
