If you want to try to ward off symptoms during cold and flu season, exercise and meditation may be the best way to go. A small study in the Annals of Family Medicine finds they work.

In the study, the exercise group had a total of 32 sick days due to colds and similar infections and the meditation group had 16. The group that did neither had as many as 67 sick days.

Authors of the study say no medication or supplement has produced preventive findings as strong as these.

The findings are considered preliminary but another trial with a larger group is on the way.
