FDA warns of contaminated tattoo ink

August 25, 2012

The Food and Drug Administration has issued an alert about the risk of infection from contaminated ink.

The FDA says the pigments used to color them can become toxic.

Inks contaminated by bacteria, mold and fungus have caused serious infections in at least five states over the past year.

Health experts say the infection can be mistaken for an allergic reaction, making it hard to diagnose.
