Report: Speed cameras plan delayed until next year

September 11, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The mayor wanted the system up and running around the city schools and parks by November, but according to the Chicago Tribune, an Illinois attorney general's office opinion from the 1970s is putting plans on hold.

The opinion indicates children must be visibly present when enforcing school speed zones. That means the cameras, which snap images of speeders, must also photograph children near the safety zone.

The city now hopes the cameras will be in place early next year.
