Study: Heart ailments less common in military

December 26, 2012

The study showed that one in 10 military members currently show signs of coronary artery disease. That number is significantly down from nearly eight in ten during the Korean War in the 1950's.

Researchers pointed to reductions in hypertension and smoking rates as contributing factors to greater overall cardiovascular health in the military.

The current volunteer military may be fitter than the draft era of decades past, some experts theorized.
