An Australian mother grabbed the head of a python that had wrapped around her sleeping 2-year-old daughter in the middle of the night.

Tess Guthrie said her cat's hissing woke her up. She found a python wrapped around her daughter's arm. Guthrie says when the snake began to strike her daughter's hand, she grabbed the python by its head and yanked it away.

"After we went to the hospital and techs came they found the snake down behind the bedside table and in between the wall but I don't doubt that he was under the bed for days, Guthrie said. The snake was caught and released back into the wild.

Guthrie's daughter was treated for three snake bites. She's doing fine. But the cat took off, and hasn't come home.
