Wells St. Bridge section delivered after delay

The delivery of a portion of the new Wells Street Bridge was delayed for a few hours Saturday morning.

The new 500,000-pound section is on a barge and was guided up the Chicago River by tugboats.

The delivery took longer than expected after gears on the Congress Bridge malfunctioned, not allowing workers to raise the bridge so the barge can pass.

Eventually, the problem was fixed.

A new phase of the re-construction of the Wells Street Bridge starts Friday, March 1.
