Boaters on the North Shore could be without a place to drop anchor this summer.

The future of Wilmette harbor is now in limbo after the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago rejected the lease bid from the group who runs the harbor.

The 300-slip harbor has been managed by the Wilmette Harbor Association for 75 years. Its temporary operating permit expires at the end of the month.

The reclamation district says it is unlikely a new tenant could take over the lease in time for the 2013 boating season.
