A suburban Deerfield man who was found guilty but mentally ill in the death of his girlfriend's mother was sentenced to 47 years in prison.

Daniel Baker, 24, killed Marina Aksman, 50, in her Vernon Hills home. He crashed a car into the victim's home and then beat her with an aluminum bat. Prosecutors say Baker believed Aksman was trying to break up his relationship with her daughter, Kristina.

The couple fled after the attack, but were caught five days later during a traffic stop in Montana.

On Monday the judge rejected a request for an additional psychiatric examination, and ruled that Baker was mentally fit for sentencing. He was found guilty but mentally ill in November 2012.
