Karen Lewis re-elected head of Chicago Teachers Union

May 17, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Karen Lewis says she and the rest of her team won with about 80 percent of the vote.

Lewis has been an outspoken critic of Mayor Emanuel.

"Clearly we have to change the conversation about public education, it cannot be a top-down mandate," said Lewis.

Lewis lead teachers on a historic seven-day strike last year.

Her challenger criticized her for not doing enough to fight school closings.
