Chicago police shoot teen in Jefferson Park neighborhood

June 14, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Authorities say police officers saw three teenagers in an alley in the 4400-block of North Mulligan Avenue around12:30 a.m. Friday. Officers stopped to talk to the teens about a curfew violation when one of the teens allegedly threatened an officer with the fence picket.

Police had asked for identification when the teen said he didn't have an ID and ran away from officers. The officers followed, and say the teen was trying to jump a fence when they caught up with him and he advanced aggressively with the board, police say.

A second officer shot the teen suspect, who was shot in the hand and foot. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Condition in good condition.

No officers were injured, and the four-foot board was recovered at the scene, police say.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.
