August 13, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The Medal of Freedom is the highest honor awarded to civilians, and is given to those who have made an exceptional contribution to the security or national interests of the country, cultural endeavors or world peace.

"I'm so surprised by it, I'm elated by it, I'm dreaming about it, I'm thinking about it, of the importance of this great honor bestowed upon me by President Obama," said Ernie Banks.

Banks joins the list of other famous baseball players to receive the award, including Hank Aaron and Jackie Robinson.
