Senator Dick Durbin says the U.S. Bureau of Prisons is ready to start using the prison in Thomson, but they need some money first.

The state opened the prison in 2001 but never fully populated it because of budget problems.

The federal government bought it for $165 million last fall.

Senator Durbin was in Thomson on Thursday and said the Bureau of Prisons is waiting for President Obama to sign a budget that includes money for Thomson.
