At Holy Name Cathedral Sunday afternoon, the Archbishop of Chicago commented on an interview where Pope Francis said the church has become too focused on issues like homosexuality, abortion and contraceptives.
He says while the pope said to accept everyone, that doesn't mean the church will have a change in doctrine.
"It's a mistake always to interpret this pope or any other as if he were an American liberal or an American conservative," he said. "The gospel and the teachings of the church don't fall into the terms of our national discourse, and so therefore, the reporting is always impartial."
Sunday afternoon, the cardinal led the annual golden wedding anniversary mass where couples who have been married for 50 years were honored.
