CHICAGO -- Val and Theresa Caputo carve pumpkins with a Chicago artist just in time for Halloween.
Chicago painter, sculptor, and cake decorator Edward Cabral stopped by to give us tips on how to carve elaborate pumpkins for Halloween! Forget carving the same jack-o-lantern every year. Edward draws images with permanent marker and uses techniques, like shaving the pumpkin rather than carving all the way through, to add contrast.
Try these pumpkin carving tips:
1. Use markers and paint to draw the image you want.
2. Always show teeth when carving a jack-o-lantern face.
3. Always show pupils in the eyes and have the faces looking different directions to add an interesting dynamic.

Special thanks to Pumpkins Chicago for providing us with pumpkins to carve. Pick your pumpkin out at the Lincoln Park Zoo Fall Fest now through Oct. 31 and check out their harvest-themed events that feature a corn maze, hay rides, pumpkin patch, Ferris wheel and more!
