Arrests made after protesters breach security fence on north side of United Center
An unknown number of people were arrested after protesters breached a security fence on the north side of the United Center.
While Capitol Police wearing gas masks could be seen, it was Chicago police officers in riot gear who were called in to handle the situation. They formed a barricade to block the breached fence and pulled protesters down from the fencing inside the secured area. Several people were taken into custody who had gone through the gap in the fence.
No skirmishes or scuffles broke out as police removed the protesters back to the permitted area for the demonstration and replaced the iron fencing panels to restore the barrier.
CPD Supt. Larry Snelling was also at the scene overseeing the response.
