Shooter opens fire on car, injuring 3 people near United Center: CPD

CHICAGO (WLS) -- At least 21 people have been shot, three fatally, in shootings across Chicago so far this weekend.

Much of the violence unfolded on Saturday night into Sunday morning. According to Chicago police, at least 15 people were shot, 1 fatally, between 11 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday.

A teenage boy was shot while sitting in a car during a gathering on the city's Southwest Side early Sunday, police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood's 5100-block of South Major Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

Someone opened fire, and the 16-year-old boy, who was parked, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg as he drove away, police said.

The teen was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition.

The shooter fled the scene.

Area One detectives are investigating. Authorities did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.

Minutes earlier, a shooting injured three people near the United Center, police said.

Police say two women were sitting in a parked car in the Near West Side neighborhood's 100-block of South Honore Street just after 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

That's when someone inside a silver sedan shot at them, police said.

One of the women, a 35-year-old, suffered a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

The other woman, a 36-year-old was grazed in the head. She was transported to the same hospital in good condition.

A man standing nearby was also hit by gunfire, police said. He self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he is listed in good condition.

No other injuries were reported. The shooting comes as Windy City Smokeout wraps up at the United Center on Sunday.

Area Three detectives are investigating. Authorities did not immediately provide further information.

About an hour earlier, a teenage boy was shot in the South Austin neighborhood, police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the 5500-block of West Van Buren Street just after 1:20 a.m.

A 14-year-old boy suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He self-transported to Loretto Hospital, and the Chicago Fire Department transferred him to Stroger Hospital.

The teen is listed in fair condition.

What led up to the shooting was not immediately clear.

On Saturday night, two men were shot, one fatally, while standing outside on the city's Northwest Side, police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the Logan Square neighborhood's 1600-block of North Washtenaw Avenue just after 11 p.m.

A male suspect approached two men and open fire, striking both of them, police said.

One of the men, a 43-year-old, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His name was not immediately released.

The other man, a 33-year-old, was shot in the leg. He was taken to the same hospital in good condition.

The gunman fled the scene on foot.

Area Five detectives are investigating. Authorities did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.

On Friday night, a man was found shot to death on the city's South Side, police said.

Officers found the 30-year-old unresponsive in the Roseland neighborhood's 0-100 block of West 112th Place around 11 p.m.

The man, shot in the abdomen and head, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Area Two detectives are investigating.

Police did not immediately provide further information.

A man injured in another South Side shooting on Friday night was involved in a crash on his way to the hospital, police said.

Police said a 56-year-old man was standing outside in the Gresham neighborhood's 900-block of West 87th Street around 9:25 p.m. That's when two male suspects took out guns and fired at him from a distance, hitting the victim in the buttocks.

Someone drove the victim to a hospital in a white sedan, police said. Before arriving at the hospital, however, they crashed into a dark-colored sedan near West 95th and South Loomis streets.

The man shot was listed in fair condition.

The dark-colored sedan's driver, a 40-year-old man, was transported to Little Company of Mary Hospital for pain in his left arm and is listed in fair condition.

The man driving the white sedan was not injured.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
