CHICAGO --A southbound Metra train struck a car around 6:10 p.m. Monday on the city's far South Side. The Rock Island District train number 419..outbound to Joliet struck a vehicle at 119th and Vincennes. According to Judy Pardonnet of Metra, there were no injuries on the train, and the car that the train struck fled the scene. Metra and Chicago police are investigating. A short delay ensued as Metra employees checked the tracks. Fire department spokesman Larry Lanford said there was no obvious damage to the train and that the car had apparently gone around the crossing gates. As of about 6:30 p.m., the train was moving but operating about 20 to 25 minutes behind schedule because of the incident, according to the Metra Web site. The train left downtown at 5:40 p.m.
