Police were called to the 2600-block of N. Oak Park Avenue around 6 a.m. to investigate reports of a man with a knife. Officers found a woman with stab wounds and the suspect was still on the scene.
Officers shot the suspect, who is in serious condition at Loyola University Medical Center. The woman is in critical condition.
Police say the incident appears to be a domestic problem.
The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.
