A former Chicago city building inspector has pleaded guilty to bribery, becoming the ninth defendant convicted in an investigation of corruption in the city's building and zoning departments. The Chicago Inspector General's Office says plumbing inspector John Chamberlain pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of bribery.
An undercover operation caught him soliciting $500 to overlook construction work, which violated the city's building code.
Chamberlain was sentenced to two years of probation and will be stripped of his pension. Chamberlain is a 19-year veteran of the Chicago building department.
