Quality relationship can aid breast cancer recovery

Breast cancer patients who had a poor relationship with their spouse or partner were likely to recover more slowly and experience worse physiological and psychological outcomes.

Researchers found that patients experiencing poor relationships with their spouse or live-in partner had higher levels of stress, lower levels of physical activity, recovered more slowly and had more symptoms of illness when compared to those who reported good relationships.

The study was conducted by researchers at Ohio State University and will appear in a future print issue of the journal Cancer.
