In the Journal of Marriage and Family, a study shows the importance of a father's involvement early on in his child's life. The study shows that fathers who help with their child's prenatal care are more likely to be around for the long haul.

Examples of involvement include buying things for the baby or being present during birth.

The findings, say researchers, suggest that such early involvement, even more so than marriage, is crucial to starting a bond between father and child

The conclusion is based on an ongoing study of 5-thousand couples.
