Consumers urged to avoid snacks with peanut butter

January 18, 2009 Federal officials are urging everyone to avoid snack food containing peanut butter, including cookies, crackers and ice cream because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

However, the FDA says there is no indication of problems with peanut butter sold in jars at supermarkets.

Four hundred sixty illnesses and six deaths are linked to the outbreak.

Investigators suspect the salmonella can be traced to a plant in Georgia.
