New label will ID where berries are grown

February 2, 2009 Driscoll's, the world largest fresh berry producer, says it will put new labels on most of its berries so consumers know where they were grown.

The "harvest mark" labels will include a 16-digit code, which can be entered on rascal's website to track the farm and the growing region.

The labels will be in use by next year. They will appear first on Driscoll's strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries and later on blueberries.

Driscoll's says the new labels tell consumers more about the fruit they eat and will also help food safety investigators track any issues.
