Teen killed in Pilsen shooting

February 15, 2009 (CHICAGO)

Police identified the victim as Johnny Vasquez of Chicago after notifying his next of kin.

Investigators said Vasquez was standing near 1914 S. Loomis Street about 11:55 p.m. when someone exited a car and opened fire striking him.

Vasquez suffered a gunshot wound to his chest and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A Cook County Medical examiner confirmed the fatality.

Family members told ABC7 Chicago that they were heartbroken over Vasquez's death.

"He was always happy. He always got along with everybody. Everybody misses him cause he was always outgoing, funny, loved his family. His niece, his little sister," said sister Ana Alvarez.

Police questioned a number of people Sunday but had no one in custody as of Sunday night.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
