Drastic measures to save on healthcare

March 17, 2009 A Consumer Reports poll of more than 2,000 Americans finds almost half have misconceptions or reservations about generic drugs, which are as safe and effective as brand options.

Thirty percent said they are taking potentially dangerous measures to cut drug costs.

"Some people told us they're splitting pills on their own, or skipping doses, or sharing prescriptions with someone else, or even worse, not filling a prescription at all," said Dr. John Santa, Consumer Reports Health.

Consumer Reports also advises you to be skeptical of drugs advertised on TV. They are likely to be expensive and not necessarily your best choice.
