The teenage boy was apparently wounded in the neck Sunday at a park in that north suburb. He was hit by a bullet that was fired during a shootout between three men.
Police say the gunfire may have involved rival gangs. No one is in custody.
In the Sunday shooting, officers responded reports of shots fired at Woodard Park in the 900 block of May Street in Waukegan about 3:40 p.m. Sunday and found the boy lying face down on the ground, according to a release from Waukegan police.
