Global increase in bed bug infestations

March 31, 2009 Entomology researchers conclude the bed bug resurgence is likely due to immigration patterns, international travel, and changing pest control practices.

Different studies have shown infestations rising by between 300 and 500 percent in some locales.

The tiny parasitic bugs can be inadvertently transported in suitcases or a person's clothing.

Reactions to bed bug bites vary in humans. Some people show no reaction, while others break out in itchy red bumps.

The good news, according to doctors, is there is little evidence that human disease is transmitted by bedbugs.
