May 17, 2009 --Our Newsviews guests are Steve Schlickman, executive director of the Regional Transportation Authority, and State Senator Martin Sandoval, a Cicero Democrat who's chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee.The RTA is making a big legislative push for lots of money. They claim they need $10 billion over five years. They insist that the system is deteriorating at a time when they provide more than 2 million rides every weekday. The three agencies under the RTA?the CTA, Metra, and Pace---serve more than 200 municipalities in six counties: Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane, McHenry and Will.
