Hotel strike enters 6th year

June 15, 2009 (CHICAGO) Hundreds of people rallied on the 6th anniversary of the Congress Hotel strike.

Workers at the Congress Hotel walked off the job in June of 2003 following a breakdown in negotiations over pay raises that other hotels were giving workers.

On Monday, Governor Pat Quinn spoke at a rally marking the sixth anniversary of the strike.

Strikers walking the picket line are a familiar sight outside the hotel on Michigan Avenue.

Quinn isn't the only high-profile politician to stand with strikers outside the hotel.

During his presidential campaign, President Barack Obama also walked the picket line.
