Morning sickness may indicate smarter offspring

July 31, 2009 A small study of Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 7 found that those whose mothers suffered morning sickness scored higher on average on certain tests of IQ , memory and language skills.

Researchers say the findings suggest that nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is not harmful and in fact may enhance children's long term mental development.

Past studies have linked morning sickness to lower rates of miscarriage, stillbirth, and preterm delivery.

This study appears in the journal Pediatrics.
