New UofI trustees approve new guidelines

September 10, 2009 The six new trustees join two other trustees who did not resign over the admissions scandal at the school and one who was re-appointed.

The board elected Chicago businessman Christopher Kennedy to be the new chairman. Kennedy said it's too soon to discuss the future of university president Joseph White and Chancellor Richard Herman.

"There are personnel issues, there are personnel issues in any large organization and this is a very large organization. The board will deal with personnel issues in a routine manner in very thoughtful process," said Kennedy.

The board voted to eliminate all preferential admissions and tracking systems and directed university officials to create an admissions code of conduct to help prevent undue influence.
