Menus with calorie information do seem to encourage diners to use some restraint when ordering a meal. New research in the American Journal of Public Health gives some weight to the growing movement to require restaurant chains to display calorie information on menus.

The intention is to help combat the nations obesity problem by raising consumer awareness of just how many calories are lurking in their burgers, fries and desserts.

The latest study from Yale University finds diners who were given calorie information ate 14 percent fewer calories than those who ordered from label-free menus.
