A small study in the journal Pediatrics suggests breast milk can be kept up to four days without losing it's nutritional value or risking bacterial build-up. Much of the past research has focused on the safety and not on the integrity of the milk. But this study also looked at the milk's composition, such as proteins and beneficial fatty acids after it had been refrigerated.

The findings suggest fresh breast milk can be refrigerated for up to four days without compromising its integrity.
