Authorities believe Hassan set a fire Thursday afternoon in a five-story building on North Sheridan Road.
The fire was ruled suspicious after investigators found a gas can in a hallway.
In addition to the death, five others were hurt in the fire, including a man who jumped from the fifth floor to escape the flames.
