Gov't offers rebates to replace old appliances

February 15, 2010 The government's appliance rebate program has two phases in Illinois. The first phase for replacing water heaters, furnaces and air conditioning units began on January 31. It ends when the funds run out.

Consumers can receive rebates on eligible water heaters and heating and air conditioning units through participating contractors and retailers.

In Illinois, the second phase of the rebate program begins in April around Earth Day. At that time, consumers can receive rebates on Energy Star appliances including dishwashers, refrigerators as well as washers and dryers.
