Snowboard inventor's son shows off original

February 18, 2010 (CHICAGO) The 12-pound oak device was first called a bunker by the three men who first came up with the idea. They were Swedish immigrant brothers Gunnar and Harvey Burgeson and a relative of theirs, Vern Wicklund.

Gunnar's son, Don, says the men got the patent in 1939. And he jumped on some of the earliest versions long before they had a name.

"We'd hop fences and farmers fields through trees and so forth and my parents also before I was even driving," said Don Burgeson.

Burgeson, 67, says he's never been on a modern snowboard.
