March 14, 2010 (CHICAGO) --The International Home and Housewares Show opened at McCormick Place Sunday in what could be its next to last appearance in Chicago. It is one of the city's largest conventions, drawing approximately 60,000 people and generating $75 million in spending. The convention is booked in Chicago through next year but is considering moving to either Orlando or Las Vegas in 2012.
The reason is money. Other cities have lower costs.
Chicago has already lost several big trade shows, and because consumers have become more frugal, exhibitors are putting less emphasis on high-end products this year.
