State lawmakers consider red light camera changes

March 16, 2010 (SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) Critics argue the cameras are used to generate revenue.

To prevent that from happening, a proposed measure in the state Senate would ban cities from tacking on an extra fee if a driver appeals a ticket.

Lawmakers also want to narrow the area of the intersection when a red light violation can be issued.

The state Senate's transportation committee approved the bill unanimously. Red light camera legislation also is moving through the state House.
