IDOT's Jacek Tyszkiewicz spoke with ABC7 Chicago Friday morning to explain the closures.
He says the lane was closed overnight.
"Also, going westbound, outbound, between York Road and I-355, we switched traffic from the two inside lanes to the outside right lane and shoulder. So, that's a configuration you should be aware of," Tyszkiewicz said.
ABC7 Chicago is told the same closures will be in effect on the inbound side over the weekend.
Tyszkiewicz said he expected construction would begin on the I-290 extension by the end of next week, as well on the eastbound side between Sacramento and the Circle.
